"STICK AROUND AS LONG AS YOU'D LIKE!"

  • “When you stretch out the kinks from a bedroll full of lumps and pull down that first shot of strong black coffee, you just made lifegood.  However, when the melody echoes across that dewy meadow, the baritone voice, from one of the mountain canaries mules, now life is great.”

Company Owners Ed and Sue Haefliger;

We are avid horse and mule packers and backcountry riders.  On this site we are offering, to the reader, practical and inventive information that has been useful to us.

We wish to encourage more horse and mule trailriders to experience the adventure of learning how to safely pack horses and mules in the backcountry.

In addition, we wish to assist and encourage all TRAIL RIDERS to take their time and skills to assist government agencies to keep the our trails open, for all users.

Great News "The CERTIFIED HORSEMANS ASSOCIATION (CHA)" has chosen our packers guide book as their training manual for their trail courses.

Check them out they are a national and international training organization dedicated to certifying quality stock trainers in all of the skills,  We are very proud of this endorsement.

"WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!"

horse and mule pack string on 1st divideSadly,informed and unnecessarily competitive user groups.  To make the matter even worse,  the access to many of our trails has been closed to stock use, by well meaning, but uninformed folks that believe stock use interferes with their use.  Add to that our agencies that are mandated to administrate our trails has had their budgets destroyed.

It is very difficult for individuals to take on this multi-faceted problem by themselves.  To deal with this problem, it is best to work within a group of like thinkers(trailriders,horse and mule packers), to get more bangs for their efforts and voices. The group we chose was BACKCOUNTRY HORSEMEN of Washington, a co-operative member of the parent group backcountry horsemen of America.  The mission statement for this organization is to do what ever it takes to keep our country's trails open to stock users.

We have taken this one step further; we have stepped up to the plate and have worked to support our government agencies in their efforts to keep the trails open for all.  You can do this through trail maintenance, packing for these agency's needs, adopting areas of need or hosting campground stewardship.

There are some extreme user groups that view recreational stock users (trailriders,horse and mule packer) with disdain.  But stock  packers that are working to keep their trails open are sent directly from above.  We will take what we can get.  A foot or hoof in the door is better than nothing.   Remember,by using your packing skills to support our government agencies you are also taking this grass roots effort to the big picture table.

We can make a difference!

In our modern political world; "You either hang together or you will hang alone!"
